Our beginnings
n 1949, shortly after graduating from Marquette University Law School, Jack D. Moertl established what would become a trusted and enduring law firm in the heart of Milwaukee’s central business district. From the very beginning, Jack focused his practice on estate planning, business law, real estate, and tax planning—helping individuals and families plan thoughtfully for the future.
As the firm’s founding and managing shareholder, Jack set the standard for integrity, careful counsel, and long-term client relationships. His vision created a firm built not just to serve clients in the moment, but to guide families and businesses across generations. Jack remained actively involved until his retirement, leaving behind a legacy that continues to shape the firm today.
Paving the way forward
When Terry L. Campbell joined the firm in 1980, he brought both deep legal knowledge and a forward-looking perspective. A graduate of Marquette University Law School, Terry became a shareholder in 1988 and later assumed the role of managing shareholder following Jack Moertl’s retirement.
During his leadership, Terry guided the firm through decades of change while remaining firmly rooted in its founding principles. His practice focused on estate planning, probate and trust administration, tax preparation, and elder law. Expanding services to meet the evolving needs of clients and their families. Terry served as managing shareholder until his retirement at the end of 2023, leaving the firm well-positioned for its next chapter.
Continuing the legacy
Robert L. Wilkins joined the firm in 1968 after graduating from Marquette University Law School, carrying forward the values and client-focused approach established by Jack Moertl. Over the next several decades, Robert played a key role in the firm’s growth and stability, working closely with clients on estate planning, probate, real estate, business law, and tax planning.
Robert’s long tenure as a shareholder reflected the firm’s commitment to continuity and trusted relationships. His steady leadership helped ensure that clients experienced consistency, care, and sound legal guidance through every stage of life and business.
